Cauliflower
Cauliflower was our recent rescue. On August 20th, we rescued him, a fragile cat found struggling to walk in Plaka (Poros mainland). When we found him, he was severely underweight, weak, and suffering from an eye issue. The following day, a vet diagnosed him with tinnitus, a condition unfortunately without treatment. However, we quickly noticed additional problems—Cauliflower had difficulty eating, and one of his eyes wasn’t blinking properly. Given the severity of his condition, we scheduled an appointment with our vet in Corinth on August 21st. There, Cauliflower underwent a comprehensive check-up, including blood tests, which fortunately came back negative for FIV and FELV. The vet also discovered that Cauliflower had ear hematomas, likely caused by mites or a chronic ear infection. These conditions might explain his loss of balance. The first step in Cauliflower’s treatment was addressing his ear infection.
Unfortunately, Cauliflower’s health took a sharp turn. On September 13th, around 4:30 pm, he developed breathing problems. A video call with the vet prompted an immediate visit. After conducting x-rays, it was discovered that Cauliflower had aspiration pneumonia, with his lungs full of liquid, likely because he couldn’t swallow properly. Despite efforts to stabilize him with oxygen, his condition worsened. In consultation with the vet, we made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him to prevent further suffering.
While we are devastated by his loss, we are grateful that in his last three weeks of life, Cauliflower was loved and cared for. He did not pass away unloved or abandoned on the streets, and we will always cherish the time we had with him.
We still kindly ask for your support to help donate, as we are still owing the vet €50 for the medical expenses and oxygen provided.
Your generosity can make a significant difference in helping other animals in need. Thank you!
